YLTC '08
Hey 33rd,
YLTC is now over... its been a great and memorable 7 precamps and 5 days, going through muchmuch inclement weather and tons of sai. Despite all the problems we faced, all the difficulties we had to overcome, we still came through nonetheless. Throughout this process, I'm sure there were tensions here and there, but as the saying goes, "when the bridge comes it will naturally be straight" (can't type chinese don't know why).
As programme IC, I'm really glad to have everyone here helping out in the camp in one way or another, and I really appreciate each and every one of you for giving your best to this camp, and OAC in general. To each, I will now say a few words.
Melissa: My wonderful co-GI, your youthful exuberance and endless antics has been invaluable during trying times. Together, we have achieved much with Apaches, and they have grown to be a confident group. ROCk ON APACHES 08!
Brandon: My faithful rover, thanks for volunteering to be advance party, cycling in the rain to confirm checkpoints and place cards, getting caught by OBS instructors and getting blisters. Your quiet presence in Apaches has given them strength, and given them hope. Your endless banter has provided much entertainment. Thank you.
Yuhui: The rover that has been ever-present (the other was off gallivanting in ubin), quiet persistence is what you excel in. When everyone was low, you'd have a word or two to get things going, making everything right again. Your silent presence was certainly uplifting for the batch.
Laiyee: Precamp ic! All the sai you did editing 7 versions of precamp proposal, handling last minute decisions to change dates and timings and programmes... It was really tough on you for that few weeks, but you've pulled through nonetheless. For being Nava GI, bringing a group back from the brink, and suffering throughout with a co-GI like zhenchao... GOOD JOB!
Ge Shuliang: GEFRIEND! The land chief that has tanked all the sai since laiyee and me were busy with prog. You have grown a lot since i first met you last year, and have shown great leadership and responsibility. YLTC wouldn't have been so successful with you. Your random comments during dorm checks and constant reminders of how zhai COMANCHES was, really spurred everyone on. WELL DONE!
Wenqing: being with shixian as co-GI for cherokees.... haha. Survival sessions were the least of my concerns during YLTC, cos survival chiefs were there. You guys never gave me problems, thank you for that. Under your guidance, Cherokees has flourished into Best Spirited Group, and i could feel their strength emanating from your unwavering guidance. Congrats on a job well done!
Junice: Staryu! its time for you to evolve to starmie, enough experience points liao! Sea ex was never a worry with the sea pokemon in charge! you guys tried so hard to make sea ex as enjoyable as possible, working on various proposals and even an overnight expedition. It was a pity that it didn't work out in the end. But it went great nonetheless, and YL was a great blend of land sea and air!
Guan Hui: Hehe, your snoring in the ops room really kept me awake muggin:D But honestly, i have never doubted pioneering ever, despite not having the proposal (even now). Surviving the few scares that came your way (rain and change of venue), you have shown great commitment and leadership abilities. don't look down on yourself, you are better than u think you are! Keep going!
marilyn: HAHA you have a junior in renice! Even up till day 4 night, you were still there chattering non-stop... so AUNTIE! But rock climbing was a breeze knowing you were in charge, making life for this beleagured prog ic SO much easier. down to the timings and external instructors, you made it great and enjoyable for the trainees despite the weather! Well Done!
ShiBao: Air chief cum Apa ex, your eccentricities were a wonderful distraction from all the crap we were suffering. Just seeing Apaches 07 screaming their heads off during mealtimes were the little things that brought immense joy to YL 08. keep screaming and keep enjoying!
Zhen Chao: eh MUK! We know you're zai lar, don't need to say anymore! First Aid mob came out fine, thanks to your endless worrying. Though campfire was marred by inclement weather, it still came off great! and im sure all the trainees enjoyed that immensely. Theres nothing like a YLTC that ends with a great big blazing campfire! Thanks for everything you've done.
Jacky: *blur face* thats what i've been seeing all 5 days from you! haha, everything also blurblur one, even during nava sentry also sleeping! But good job for survival and taking shawnees. They have certainly grown much during YLTC, and you should be glad seeing where they are today.
Hoe Kit: Though you weren't with us much during YL, you were nonetheless here during First Aid mob. It played out perfectly, with trainees remembering much of what was taught in precamps. in fact, i would say they did better than we did last year! Good job!
Eileen: From collating trainee names to confiscating pawnees flags, you were great! seeing pawnees evolve from a bunch of "maveriks' (haha thats how u spelt his name... WRONGLY) to a group of sincerely zihigh and bonded individuals that took whatever came their way! Being their GI was certainly the best thing that happened to pawnees, and you should be proud of where Pawnees is today. they barely lost best spirited group, and they definitely deserved best improvement group!
Li Tang: Squirtle uses WATER GUN! more like a piercing glance, just like you always do! Sea ex went smoothly with the water pokemon in charge, and you were always there quietly working, getting things done without a single complaint. Great job rover, and now on to Atlantis!
Kevin: Pawnees GI, who looked just like a trainee himself! your antics were ever-present, and i enjoyed taking pictures of you during YL! Your positive attitude was a wonderful source of enjoyment in times of worry, so thank you. And first aid mob went well too!
Sherene: being CI was definitely tough, but u put your best into it. throughout YL, the numerous times u looked for lock, replied his smses, printed tshirts, looked through proposals. Standing up there, talking to trainees and briefing them, required guts, and u came through fine! Though there may be differences, never forget that your batch is there for you, as long as you tell us the problems! Let us be your pillars of support!
Shi Xian: CAINIAO. Though i niao u alot, i really appreciate what you've done. Accounts were handled impeccably, and staying up to tank night sentry at ubin while the rest knocked out, u were great! your achievements have not gone unnoticed, thank you!
Sandra: haha the shawnees in pawnees! completing the YL booklet single-handedly, the days following up to precamp 7 was definitely hell for you, but u pulled through! Now, this booklet shall pass on for generations to come, forever leaving the legacy of 33rd! and this is thanks to you for immortalising it!
Kai Qing: Though you could not be here for YLTC, you were always in our hearts as part of the 33rd batch. Thanks for wishing us well for YLTC despite not being here, and whatever you have done for OAC that may have gone unnoticed.
TOKKY: Our sexy CHIEF qm! Logistics for YLTC really went well, no problems with food, transport or ANYTHING! Half the battle for YL was conquered with you in charge, and we never had to worry that there were no equipment available! Working endlessly from the start till cleanup, we have you to thank for doing so much, yet getting so little credit! THANKS A BUNCH TOKKY! WE love u!
LiPing: big things for small people! Silent worker, you have worked tirelessly throughout YL, as a wonderful QM and rover! Everytime you hear someone report to QMs, your name never fails to appear first! (haha duh, but i mean it!) your silent presence was great balance for Navajos, and provided the tranquil side that they so desperately needed. GOOD JOB!
Jia Min: From ssx to yufeng to dunno who.... falling asleep during debrief and all that! of all people to scare zhenxian... it must be you! haha JOKE! but seriously, all the food was managed perfectly, nothing missing at all! And you did an excellent job handling logistics and everything else. Your bubbly nature never fails to keep our spirits high and the ability to keep on going. Thanks a bunch for being there!
Rachel: right from the start, recre comm was the WORST thing that could ever be. Forced to tekan juniors, acting fierce when u actually wasnt. Haha, helped me play the nice guy and angel:D Nonetheless, congrats on a job well done! It was never easy to play that role, and i think you did that well! Lets put all the unhappy things behind, and be glad for what we achieved. But never ever suffer alone, for your batch is here with you! and mou of course:P
Yufeng: small boy, always looking so zibei. Having you there during dorm checks was great, doing all the saigang for us, yet respecting us and not speaking at all. return of counts could have gone much better, but their physical really CMI. Ah well, just keep an open mind and listen to others, they may have better ideas too! Recre comm rock on!
Ming Yew: one who never said anything until right at the end. u proved it during precamps and once again in YL. The botanic gardens session went on perfectly with you in charge, even the maps looked good! I have certainly no worries leaving things in your hands! Cos when the time comes, we know you'll deliver. Thank you mingyao!
Lokky: Though you weren't here for part of YLTC and most of the precamps, yet you still came back whenever you could. The times when you were here were made to count, and things went on so much better when you were here. Your spontaineity and initiative were invaluable, and zihighing really infected everyone! You must know, that you will always be part of us, no matter where you are!
After saying so much, I would just like to end off with a photo, for a photo speaks a thousand words. No matter what we've gone through, this camp, in the end, belongs to a group of people and THAT group of people alone! Hopefully everyone can remember it for the good things and strive to improve the shortcomings in the times to come!
